Ranur Robi

Ranu had just arrived in Kolkata from Varanasi at the age of 12, at that time Rabindranath Tagore was 58.  An inexplicable, profound bond formed between the two, one that occasionally surfaced in letters and then submerged into the depths of silence. This connection lasted for exactly six years, where the mature Rabindranath and the young Ranu shared a unique relationship. From the quiet corners of Santiniketan and the bustling Jorasanko in Kolkata to the shadowed pine forests of Shillong, traces of their affection lingered everywhere.
 

And then?... What was the fate of this relationship? The bond was eventually severed, and the inevitable—Ranu's marriage—took place.
 

But could Ranu ever forget those old, cherished days? Can one ever forget, especially when the beloved is none other than Rabindranath himself? In the melancholic twilight of her life, Ranu quietly penned her final letter to her beloved Bhanudada.  This poignant, tearful, unfulfilled love letter, brimming with longing, has been fictionalised by Ranjan Bandyopadhyay as the deeply moving novel ‘Ranur Robi’.
